Healthfirst Paralegal in New York, New York

The Paralegal will assist in Fair Hearings for Medicaid, Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus and Medicare including compiling evidence to defend Healthfirst and attending scheduled Fair Hearings on behalf of the plan when required.

The Paralegal will assist support to in house legal counsel on legal matters which include but are not limited to litigation support, Fair Hearings, corporate contracts, etc..

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Providing support to inhouse legal counsel or the organization's attorney to resolve routine legal issues.

  • Researching and analyzing law sources, statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles and codes.

  • Preparing legal documents such as briefs, appeals, contracts, etc. Requires associates degree in the legal field.

  • Reporting directly to inhouse legal counsel or attorney.

  • Assisting in handling and attending scheduled Fair Hearings on behalf of the Plan.

  • Reviewing and logs Fair Hearing notices; compiles and coordinates assembly of documentation supporting actions taken by the Plan.

  • Reviewing documentation and formulates argument supporting Plan action, or if action cannot be supported, works with appropriate departments to correct issue prior to hearings.

  • Maintaining corporate governance documents which include completing necessary filings or renewals required to keep the company in operation.

  • Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Preferred familiarity with the Medicaid/Medicare programs and the Health Insurance

  • AA/AS degree in the legal field

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

  • Familiarity with Microsoft office, Excel and SharePoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Paralegal Certificate

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deliverables

  • Related experience as a paralegal in a law firm and/or corporate legal department or managed care organization

  • Westlaw and Lexis Nexus Software
