Healthfirst Sr Application Developer (BI Sr Developer) in New York, New York


The Senior Developer (BI) primary responsibilities are to guide and develop the design, implementation, testing and delivery of work within the team that cultivates communication and foster best application development practices against customized software. They will have a strong knowledge of software development and design and will have experience working to develop business-critical applications.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

Specifically, this role will be responsible for serving as a Senior Business Intelligence Developer comfortable with the creation of a dashboard using Qlik technology platform (or similar).

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Consult with clients to analyze and understand functions to be automated, client needs, objectives, desired features, and input and output requirements.

  • Analyze, define, and document system requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.

  • Analyze and estimate feasibility, time, compatibility with other systems, and computer capabilities.

  • Analyze, assist installs, and test upgrades of internally/externally developed application programs.


  • Develop and maintain plans outlining steps and time tables for developing, testing, and installing applications.

  • Design and code screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems.

  • Demonstrate expertise in one or many of Healthfirst's programming languages.


  • Write and maintain functional and technical specifications. Convert designs and specifications into computer code.

  • Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.

  • Write documentation or review documentation written by others which describes installation and operating procedures.


  • Create test scenarios and run test to find errors and confirm program meets specifications.

  • Analyze codes to find causes of errors and revise programs.

  • Consult with clients to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to attain client approval.

  • Analyze, assist installs, and test upgrades of internally/externally developed application programs.


  • Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with program.

  • Train end users or technical support staff to use programs.

  • Monitor performance of programs after implementation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able to perform data extraction and manipulation using ETL (e.g. Informatica) or SQL

  • Knowledge of various BI Reporting Tools Cognos, Business Objects, Microstrategy, Qlikview, SAS ETL: Informatica, DWH: Netezza

  • High School Diploma or GED/ relevant experience
